The Post Competition Hangover Is Real
There is a very specific feeling that hits dance moms and dancers the Monday after a competition weekend.
It’s not exactly exhaustion.
It’s not exactly sadness.
It’s something in between.
We call it the post competition hangover.
After a weekend filled with loud music, bright lights, stage adrenaline, quick costume changes, cheering in the audience, and living on coffee and snacks, Monday suddenly feels… quiet.
And a little weird.
The Sudden Silence
All weekend long there is music playing somewhere. Announcers calling numbers. Teammates laughing backstage. The audience clapping after every routine. Then Monday morning arrives and the house is silent. No schedule. No costume rack. No lineup sheets. Just normal life again.
The Dance Bag Of Doom
At some point on Monday you realize the dance bag still exists. Inside you will find bobby pins, false lashes, safety pins, snack wrappers, and possibly a rogue sock that nobody claims. You know you should unpack it. You will probably wait until Tuesday.
The Phone Camera Roll Explosion
Your phone is now full of photos from awards, backstage moments, team pictures, and random blurry shots taken in the excitement of the weekend.
Monday becomes the day you scroll through everything and relive the best moments.
The Emotional Crash
Competition weekends come with a lot of energy and anticipation.
Once it’s over, that adrenaline disappears. Dancers can feel tired, emotional, or a little down. It’s normal. They gave a lot of energy to that stage.
The Return To Reality
School.
Work.
Laundry.
Groceries.
Emails.
The things that pay for the dance life all come rushing back on Monday morning. And suddenly the competition weekend feels like a whirlwind that flew by too fast.
The Countdown Begins Again
And yet, somewhere in the middle of the Monday slump, something funny happens.
You start thinking about the next one.
The next routine.
The next costume.
The next stage.
Because once you’re part of the dance competition world, these weekends become some of the most memorable moments of the year.
So if you’re feeling a little tired, a little emotional, or a little nostalgic today, you’re not alone.
That’s just the post competition hangover talking.
Until next time, TCDM Fam. 💙
